At approximately 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, the Ames Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4015 Quebec St. Ames firefighters arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the single-story duplex with flames visible through a basement window.

Firefighters entered the structure and confirmed all occupants on both sides of the duplex had made it out safely. The fire was located in the basement and quickly extinguished. The fire was contained to the basement, however the entire unit experienced smoke damage.

One person was home at the time of the fire and safely made it out thanks to working smoke detectors. No injuries were reported.

The Ames Fire Department reminds all residents to check their smoke detectors monthly. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
